This place is well-known for production of ”Seto-yaki”, a type of Japanese ceramics. Known as ”Setomono”, the name derives from this town, which has been ”Seto” since ancient times. The pottery and glassware are produced from clay and silica sand mined from the mountains around the city.
The annual ”Setomono” Festival is the nation’s largest pottery bargain market, attracting around 500,000 people per year to Seto’s biggest event. In recent years, the sixth-order agricultural industry has been focusing on the government and the private sector. The establishment of agricultural brands such as ”Seto Buta” and ”SeTomato” set up by the Seto Agricultural School is being promoted. In 2016, the total number of tourists recorded 2,960,000 people.
